NEW CITY CATECHISM #9

Question: What does God require in the first, second, and third commandments?

Answer: First, that we know and trust God as the only true and living God. Second, that we avoid all idolatry and do not worship God improperly. Third, that we treat God’s name with fear and reverence, honoring also his Word and works.

Scripture Memory Verse: Deuteronomy 6:13–14.

WEEKLY DISCIPLESHIP RESOURCES

Here are a few discipleship resources our elders recommend checking out this week.

  1. Are Sundays Good For Babies? - Once a week, the Lord breaks into our routine and reminds us that naptimes and snacktimes are not ultimate.

  2. Unless You Stop Loving Sin - We need to see the beauty and love and holiness of the Triune God, perceiving him as the Treasure he really is. We need to turn from the false promises of sin and aim our lives toward him. This is repentance — and this is life.

  3. 3 Ways Christians Are Sanctified - God's Word, God's Spirit, and God's people are three ways Christians are sanctified.

Please read them and use them as discipleship opportunities to discuss with one another.

HRF KIDS - ROOM CHANGES AND NEW KINDERGARTEN CLASS

We are excited to announce a few changes to HRF Kids starting this Sunday, March 3rd. One change we are especially excited about is that we will finally be opening our Kindergarten room! If you are a parent of a kindergartner, please feel free to check them into HRF Kids on Sunday.

To accommodate the new room, we will be changing the room names and arrangement. All HRF Kids rooms will now be referred to by colors! The color names will make it simpler for parents to know which room their child is assigned to. The room your child is in will be on their check in sticker and there will be signs outside each room as well. Myself and others will be there ready and willing to help on Sunday with any questions you have and to direct you to the correct rooms. Here is a list of the rooms with their new names:

  • Green Room (nursery)

  • Blue Room (young toddlers)

  • Yellow Room (toddlers)

  • Purple Room (older toddlers)

  • Red Room (3 and 4 year olds)

  • Orange Room (rising and current kindergartners)

We also have a lactation room upstairs with two rocking chairs for any mom’s who would like to use it!

HRF INSTITUTE

We are now offering classes during the Sunday morning hour from 10 am - 10:45 am.

Currently, grades 1-8 are studying the New City Catechism in their student groups. Grades 9-12 and adults are attending a class on Evangelism. Children from Kindergarten and below attend the NEST during this time.

You can listen to the audio from these classes here. Come join us as we study God's Word together on Sunday mornings!

HRF MEN'S RETREAT - MAR 21-23

The deadline to register is March 1, 2019, but we ask that you register ASAP for planning purposes. You can register with a $50 deposit now and pay the remaining amount by March 1. Question: What is the law of God stated in the Ten Commandments?

Answer: You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below—you shall not bow down to them or worship them. You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God. Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Honor your father and your mother. You shall not murder. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not give false testimony. You shall not covet.

Scripture Memory Verse: Exodus 20:3 & Deuteronomy 5:7

WEEKLY DISCIPLESHIP RESOURCES

Here are a few discipleship resources our elders recommend checking out this week.

  1. The Antidote to Self-Pity - We need to be reminded to look outside of our circumstances and ourselves.

  2. Four Aspects of Your Identity in Christ to Focus On - May we each grasp and live out the identity we have in Jesus.

  3. Gospel Doctrine, Gospel Culture - Gospel doctrine creates a gospel culture. The doctrine of grace creates a culture of grace, as Jesus himself touches us through his truths. Without the doctrines, the culture alone is fragile. Without the culture, the doctrines alone appear pointless. But the New Testament binds doctrine and culture together.

Please read them and use them as discipleship opportunities to discuss with one another.

NEW CITY CATECHISM #7

Question: What does the law of God require?

Answer: Personal, perfect, and perpetual obedience; that we love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength; and love our neighbor as ourselves. What God forbids should never be done and what God commands should always be done.

Scripture Memory Verse: Matthew 22:37-40.

WEEKLY DISCIPLESHIP RESOURCES

Here are a few discipleship resources our elders recommend checking out this week.

  1. Why God Won’t Give You Everything You Want - Our lives are more than our possessions (Lk. 12:15). Our identity can’t be found in owning certain things but in belonging to God as his beloved (Eph. 1:1-14). God doesn’t give us what we want, but he does, and has, given us everything we need and more in Christ Jesus.

  2. The Every Member Ministry of Encouragement - We need daily reminders of Jesus and the gospel. The satanic powers don’t take days off. They don’t have weekends. So, this means a Sunday worship service and two hours in a small group isn’t a wise way to wage spiritual warfare. We need a daily help. Daily. Daily hearing of God’s voice in the Word, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion” (Heb. 3:15), and daily encouragement from one another. This is your ministry.

  3. Three Ways to Escape Self-Importance - Jesus calls all who follow him to carry their crosses, which includes putting to death our exaggerated, false sense of self-importance. Here are three valuable habits to put into practice.

Please read them and use them as discipleship opportunities to discuss with one another.
