HRF Weekly Update - April 21, 2019

UPCOMING SERMON

This Sunday, April 21, 2019, Pastor Tony will be preaching from Luke 24:1-12. We encourage you to prepare for corporate worship by reading and praying through the text prior to the message on Sunday.

CORPORATE WORSHIP SONGS

Here are the songs we will be singing together this Sunday:

  1. Let Us Adore

  2. Resurrection Hymn (See What A Morning)

  3. Crown Him with Many Crowns

  4. Jesus Paid It All

  5. Christ Is Risen

  6. How Great Is Our God

NEW CITY CATECHISM #16

Question: What is sin?

Answer: Sin is rejecting or ignoring God in the world he created, rebelling against him by living without reference to him, not being or doing what he requires in his law—resulting in our death and the disintegration of all creation.

Scripture Memory Verse: John 3:4.

WEEKLY DISCIPLESHIP RESOURCES

Here are a few discipleship resources our elders recommend checking out this week.

  1. What the Lord’s Day Is - The Lord’s Day is water for the parched runner. This life is a race, and one that leaves us weary and dry as we constantly “lay aside every weight” and “run with endurance” the long race set before us (Hebrews 12:1).

  2. Easter Week In Real Time - It’s Holy Week—that sacred span from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday. Russ Ramsey provides a day-by-day breakdown of what Scripture tells us happened each day.

  3. What Happens When We Sing? - Why does God so often tell us not simply to praise him but to sing his praises when we meet? Why not just pray and preach? Why sing? Why are God’s people throughout history always singing? Why words and music and not just words alone? Why does God want us to sing?

Please read them and use them as discipleship opportunities to discuss with one another.

HRF INSTITUTE CLASS - GOSPEL-CENTERED STEWARDSHIP

Join us this Sunday at 10 am in the Fellowship Hall as Colin Tucker continues our HRF Institute class on Gospel-Centered Stewardship by teaching us about generosity.

HRF MEMBERS’ MEETING - APR 28

Our next HRF Members Meeting will be April 28, 2019, at 3 pm.

Members Meetings serve as a way we care for another and carry out our responsibilities as members of a local church. If you are a member of HRF, please make every effort to attend.

HRF Weekly Update - April 14, 2019

UPCOMING SERMON

This Sunday, April 14, 2019, Pastor Miguel will be preaching from Matthew 21:1-11. We encourage you to prepare for corporate worship by reading and praying through the text prior to the message on Sunday.

CORPORATE WORSHIP SONGS

Here are the songs we will be singing together this Sunday:

  1. Psalm 34 (Taste & See)

  2. First and Only

  3. Build My Life

  4. Hosanna

  5. Yearn

  6. He Will Hold Me Fast

NEW CITY CATECHISM #15

Question: Since no one can keep the law, what is its purpose?

Answer: That we may know the holy nature and will of God, and the sinful nature and disobedience of our hearts; and thus our need of a Savior. The law also teaches and exhorts us to live a life worthy of our Savior.

Scripture Memory Verse: Romans 3:20.

WEEKLY DISCIPLESHIP RESOURCES

Here are a few discipleship resources our elders recommend checking out this week.

  1. How to Foster a Gospel Culture - When the doctrine is clear and the culture is beautiful, that church will be powerful. But there are no shortcuts to getting there. Without the doctrine, the culture will be weak. Without the culture, the doctrine will seem pointless.

  2. Fighting Discontentment - Everyone struggles with discontentment at one time or another, and it’s particularly difficult when we are discontent with the church. How then should we handle discontentment so that it spurs us onward to unity? That’s what we’ll consider today.

  3. When Churches Can’t Do Everything - The simple—yet disappointing fact—is that no local church can do everything thing there is to be done. Or to put it more pointedly: your thing may not be your church’s thing. This is usually tough for pastors to communicate and even tougher for church members to hear.

Please read them and use them as discipleship opportunities to discuss with one another.

HRF INSTITUTE CLASS - GOSPEL-CENTERED STEWARDSHIP

Join us this Sunday at 10 am in the Fellowship Hall as Paul Speight continues our HRF Institute class on Gospel-Centered Stewardship by teaching us about budgeting and debt management.

HRF Weekly Update - April 7, 2019

UPCOMING SERMON

This Sunday, April 7, 2019, Pastor Tony will be preaching from Acts 16:25-40. We encourage you to prepare for corporate worship by reading and praying through the text prior to the message on Sunday.

CORPORATE WORSHIP SONGS

Here are the songs we will be singing together this Sunday:

  1. Good, Good Father

  2. Living Hope

  3. See the Destined Day Arise

  4. How Deep the Father’s Love For Us

  5. How He Loves

NEW CITY CATECHISM #14

Question: Did God create us unable to keep his law?

Answer: No, but because of the disobedience of our first parents, Adam and Eve, all of creation is fallen; we are all born in sin and guilt, corrupt in our nature and unable to keep God’s law.

Scripture Memory Verse: Romans 5:12.

WEEKLY DISCIPLESHIP RESOURCES

Here are a few discipleship resources our elders recommend checking out this week.

  1. Seven Ways We Can Guard and Repair Relationships - One of the most beautiful scenes in the Bible is between brothers who had been long alienated: “Esau ran to meet him and embraced him and fell on his neck and kissed him, and they wept” (Gen. 33:4). God wants that beauty to reappear in every generation, including ours right now.

  2. Why Don’t We Shout in Worship? - We find clear examples and exhortations regarding shouting in the Bible, particularly in the Psalms. And so, we need to ask ourselves whether or not it matters to God if we actually do what these psalms commend or command us to do.

  3. 5 Implications for Relationships Defined by the Gospel - The goal in a relationship isn’t just companionship, love, shared benefit, or pleasure. Those things are part of it, but the ultimate goal is the formation of Christ in another—to see that person grow into a true follower of Jesus.

Please read them and use them as discipleship opportunities to discuss with one another.

HRF NEW MEMBERS CLASS - APRIL 7

HRF will be hosting a New Members class on Sunday, April 7, 2019 from 1 pm - 4 pm. This class is an introduction to our church and the responsibilities of membership. Although it is required in order become a member of HRF, in no way does participating in the class obligate you to join HRF. We also recommend that existing members attend this class once a year as a refresher on what membership involves in the life of HRF. Lunch and childcare will be provided.
