HRF Weekly Update - Feb 17, 2019

This Sunday, February 17, 2019, Pastor Tony will be preaching from Acts 15:1-35.

We encourage you to prepare for corporate worship by reading and praying through the text prior to the message on Sunday.

Here are the songs we will be singing together this Sunday:

  1. Good Good Father

  2. Lord I Need You

  3. In Christ Alone

  4. His Forever

  5. Knees to the Earth

  6. Great Are You Lord

Question: What does the law of God require?

Answer: Personal, perfect, and perpetual obedience; that we love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength; and love our neighbor as ourselves. What God forbids should never be done and what God commands should always be done.

Scripture Memory Verse: Matthew 22:37-40.

Here are a few discipleship resources our elders recommend checking out this week.

  1. Why God Won’t Give You Everything You Want - Our lives are more than our possessions (Lk. 12:15). Our identity can’t be found in owning certain things but in belonging to God as his beloved (Eph. 1:1-14). God doesn’t give us what we want, but he does, and has, given us everything we need and more in Christ Jesus.

  2. The Every Member Ministry of Encouragement - We need daily reminders of Jesus and the gospel. The satanic powers don’t take days off. They don’t have weekends. So, this means a Sunday worship service and two hours in a small group isn’t a wise way to wage spiritual warfare. We need a daily help. Daily. Daily hearing of God’s voice in the Word, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion” (Heb. 3:15), and daily encouragement from one another. This is your ministry.

  3. Three Ways to Escape Self-Importance - Jesus calls all who follow him to carry their crosses, which includes putting to death our exaggerated, false sense of self-importance. Here are three valuable habits to put into practice.

Please read them and use them as discipleship opportunities to discuss with one another.

We are now offering classes during the Sunday morning hour from 10 am - 10:45 am.

Currently, grades 1-8 are studying the New City Catechism in their student groups. Grades 9-12 and adults are attending a class on Evangelism. Children from Kindergarten and below attend the NEST during this time.

You can listen to the audio from these classes here. Come join us as we study God's Word together on Sunday mornings!

We are excited to announce an opportunity to encourage us all as brothers in Christ together! In 2019, HRF will be hosting a Men's Retreat for the men of HRF.

The theme for the 2019 HRF Men's Retreat will be Honor One Another and should serve as an opportunity for us all to better understand the role we each play in our responsibilities towards loving one another with brotherly affection and outdoing one another in showing honor.

The deadline to register is March 1, 2019, but we ask that you register ASAP for planning purposes. You can register with a $50 deposit now and pay the remaining amount by March 1. If you have any further questions about this event, please contact Ben Slade at (423) 667-8939 or
