NEW CITY CATECHISM #20

Question: Who is the Redeemer?

Answer: The only Redeemer is the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, in whom God became man and bore the penalty for sin himself.

Scripture Memory Verse: 1 Timothy 2:5.

WEEKLY DISCIPLESHIP RESOURCES

Here are a few discipleship resources our elders recommend checking out this week.

  1. Five Ways Every Member Can Love and Strengthen the Church - All Christians have an important place in the body and unique gifting from the Spirit to build others up in love. The New Testament is filled with ways that every believer can love and serve in the local body where God has put them. Here are five.

  2. 4 Creative Ways to be Generous - Perhaps, like me, you wonder if it’s possible to be generous when finances are tight. The Lord has humbled me with a simple reminder: Generosity comes in many shapes and sizes.

  3. Eternity Changes Everything - A tasted, treasured, future new creation is a God-ordained means of God-pleasing living. By breeding in God’s people a restless patience, love for God’s future saves us from the pitfalls of settling or seizing.

Please read them and use them as discipleship opportunities to discuss with one another.

HRF Weekly Update - May 12, 2019

UPCOMING SERMON

This Sunday, May 12, 2019, we will have a guest preacher, Jonathan Morgan, preaching from John 11:17-27. Jonathan serves as an elder at Capital Hill Baptist Church in Washington, DC. We encourage you to prepare for corporate worship by reading and praying through the text prior to the message on Sunday.

CORPORATE WORSHIP SONGS

Here are the songs we will be singing together this Sunday:

  1. Lord I Need You

  2. Is He Worthy

  3. Jesus We Love You

  4. Give Me Faith

  5. Wonderful Merciful Savior

  6. The Stand

NEW CITY CATECHISM #19

Question: Is there any way to escape punishment and be brought back into God’s favor?

Answer: Yes, to satisfy his justice, God himself, out of mere mercy, reconciles us to himself and delivers us from sin and from the punishment for sin, by a Redeemer.

Scripture Memory Verse: Isaiah 53:10–11.

WEEKLY DISCIPLESHIP RESOURCES

Here are a few discipleship resources our elders recommend checking out this week.

  1. The Real Church Gets Messy, And That’s Good - When God moves in reviving power, a church might get worse—at the level of appearances, anyway. Why? Because real problems that had been submerged force their way to the surface, consciences long for relief, the Spirit presses us to come clean.

  2. Lay Aside the Fear of Man - The fear of man can immobilize us when we should take action, and gag us into silence when we should speak. It feels powerful, but its power is deceptive. That’s why the Bible tells us, “The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe” (Proverbs 29:25).

  3. Christian Mindfulness? - Christians have a personal, loving, accepting, forgiving, gracious and present Savior, who aides us day by day through the work of the Holy Spirit within us. As we go about our daily lives, with all of the stresses and busyness, we are constantly invited to be mindful of God’s presence with us, his care for us and new power in us that he has provided to face each moment of each day.

Please read them and use them as discipleship opportunities to discuss with one another.

HRF INSTITUTE CLASS - FEAR OF MAN

HRF Weekly Update - May 5, 2019

UPCOMING SERMON

This Sunday, May 5, 2019, Pastor Tony will be preaching from 1 John 1:5-10. We encourage you to prepare for corporate worship by reading and praying through the text prior to the message on Sunday.

CORPORATE WORSHIP SONGS

Here are the songs we will be singing together this Sunday:

  1. Before the Throne of God Above

  2. The Gospel Song

  3. Who You Say I Am

  4. Soon

  5. Carried to the Table

  6. Your Glory (Nothing But the Blood)

NEW CITY CATECHISM #18

Question: Will God allow our disobedience and idolatry to go unpunished?

Answer: No, every sin is against the sovereignty, holiness, and goodness of God, and against his righteous law, and God is righteously angry with our sins and will punish them in his just judgment both in this life, and in the life to come.

Scripture Memory Verse: Ephesians 5:5–6.

WEEKLY DISCIPLESHIP RESOURCES

Here are a few discipleship resources our elders recommend checking out this week.

  1. How to Foster a Gospel Culture - Gospel doctrine creates a gospel culture. The doctrine of grace creates a culture of grace, as Jesus himself touches us through his truths. Without the doctrines, the culture alone is fragile. Without the culture, the doctrines alone appear pointless.

  2. The Unique Witness of Unlikely Friendships - If we allow the gospel to radically infiltrate our friendships, our love for one another will amplify our witness to the world. Through our friendships with brothers and sisters in Christ—even those brothers and sisters who seem unlike us—we can demonstrate the unifying love of Christ, the rescuing love of Christ, and the reconciling love of Christ.

  3. Confront Disappointment with a Promise - When you are feeling hopeless, don’t wallow in self-pity, or try to change your own heart, or settle for Netflix. Turn to Christ in faith.

Please read them and use them as discipleship opportunities to discuss with one another.
